CranialSacral Therapy and Sensory Integration

Sensory Integration dysfunction occurs when the brain is unable to correctly process information that comes  in through senses.  With sensory we rely on of who we are, where we are, and what is happening around us.  We all have sensory for example, you may be sensitive to noise, light or you may bite your nails, twirl your hair, shake your leg.  For some kids it may be moe pronounced where it gets them into trouble in school.  Then they are labeled with ADHD or behavioral problem which they may have sensory processing disorder.  I have worked with the kids doing CranialSacral Therapy.  CST helps come their bodies.  If the child is left untreated then they cannot focus and learn.  With treatment it will calm the nervous system and as they get older they will know what to do to calm their bodies.  CST is a great therapy to add along with other therapies like OT or Movement Therapy.

During a session the client is clothed and different sensory integration protocols are used to help the child stay calm and relaxed during CST session.  I use things like blowing toys, weighted stuff animals, weighted neck wraps to provide proprioceptive and tactile input.  This helps balance the childs nervous system. Sessions can be 20min to 50min.
