Finding Eco-friendly Electronics Manufacturers
Going green and being in the market for new electronics seem to be at odds with each other. Nevertheless, there are plenty of us who are interested not only in getting a new laptop, but also making sure the manufacturer follows good practices. I’ll share with you three great resources for making sure your next electronics purchase is eco-friendly.
For a general overview, take a look at Newsweek magazines 2009 List of Top 500 Green US Companies. HP and Dell top the list.
Over at greenpeace, you can do a search for various products. Searching for electronics will show you that they like Nokia, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson.
EPEAT is a system that helps purchasers evaluate, compare and select electronic products based on their environmental attributes. They cover desktop, laptop computers, and monitors. Manufacturers that meet their criteria register their products. They rank the products on three levels: bronze, silver, and gold.
